At the third meeting in as many months involving the Traders of Towcester, the most positive meeting so far resulted in a number of clear areas of consensus amongst the group.

  • NAME: The group agreed that it should establish a recognisable name – the name chosen was one first raised at last month’s meeting, “Taste of Towcester”. This will be used in all future publicity and correspondence
  • ADVERTISING: The group also agreed to move forward on the idea of a Towcester Shopping bag discussed at previous meetings. Paper based using the logo’s of each participating shop on one side themed around “Taste of Towcester” and a simple map of the town on the other
  • TRADERS EVENT: A smaller group have decided to meet to explore what, if any opportunities we may have to have a “Taste of Towcester” event in the Town around autumn. This would be an event FOR the Traders and organised BY the Traders
  • MAY DAY FAYRE: Frank Kelly of the rotary club attended to discuss opportunities for the forthcoming May Day Fayre on the Towcester Recreational ground. A number of traders expressed an interest in taking up the opportunity of a stall on the day or an advert in the program.
  • THE APPEARANCE OF THE HIGH STREET: The traders present agreed to make a concerted effort to brighten up their shop fronts over the upcoming spring and summer period. This would include the placement of flowers throughout as many shop fronts as possible in order to make shopping in Towcester more inviting.

Tony McMurray of the Towcester Tearooms who chaired the meeting said “Brian at the Folly Inn put on a great spread for the traders and the atmosphere was the most positive of the three meetings so far. There was a clear consensus on a number of ideas and the group left the meeting with a real air of positivity which is very uplifting considering the climate in which we are all trading in”.

As with the previous three meetings the group has agreed to change the venue again for the next meeting in May in order to allow for the widest range of businesses in Towcester to benefit. The next meeting will be on Thursday 21st May at the New Bekash in Towcester when it is hoped the guest speaker will be a representative of the local Police.

Sharon McMurray added “The group is keen to see as many traders in the high street as possible as the thoughts and ideas of all who attend help formulate the best plan of action for Towcester High Street”.
