Pupils Urged To Apply For Bus Passes

Pupils who are considering going into sixth form education next year and who need a bus pass are being urged by Northamptonshire County Council to get their application forms in soon.

There are a limited number of passes that are available in the county for those in post-16 education and they are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Application forms are available in schools from the end of this month (MARCH) and completed forms should be sent in no later than May 1.

Cllr Bob Seery, county council cabinet member for transport and highways, said: “As this is a very useful and popular service it is important that all those in post-16 education, who wish to take advantage of it, apply for their bus passes as quickly as possible.

“It is appreciated that some of those entitled to use the service may for various reasons subsequently decided not to do so but it is essential applications are now made for processing for time for the Autumn term.

“I hope that this will enable all students to obtain their passes for the coming year.”

Not only do Year 11 pupils who want to go into the sixth form need to apply for passes, Year 12 students intending to continue into Year 13 also need to apply.

Passes are available to pupils who are in full-time education, who reach their 16th birthday before September 1 and who live more than three miles walking distance from their designated or nearest school.

Passes cost £380 for the whole school year but can also be bought for either the autumn, spring or summer terms individually. Some pupils may qualify for a free pass and should refer to the guidance notes with the applications form for details.

If students have applied for a pass and decide not to stay on until sixth form, they will be entitled to a full refund if the passes are returned before the end of September.
